Some golf with old family friends the McCulloch’s

This past weekend Ken and I met with some family friends Don, Mary, John David and his wife Keri, and Kenny’s closest friend Terry Smith for some golf at Waterwood Golf Course…the Shipley’s and McCulloch’s go way back. Their son John David grew up with Kenny and Kevin in Spring, TX when they moved there in the early 70’s.
It was nice to finally get to meet JD (I have met Don & Mary a few times over the past 4 years, but not JD & Keri), Kenny talks about him often and how much they used to play ping pong, and how they would have “Wimbledon” Ping Pong matches. They used to play golf together frequently 15 years or so ago…I think that’s the last time they have seen each other…but they chat often online and have kept in touch. Anyway we all had a great time…it was fun getting to talk with Mary again and chatting with Keri also…I had my camera of course to catch some moments of our day…It was miserably hot and humid on Saturday, but we all made the best of it and enjoyed being out and with some good company.
Here are some of my favorites from that day.
Enjoy!

Finally a moment to blog…well for now anyway…

It has seemed crazy around here for the past month…I had deadlines for the SHSU Jr Fellows League LSC Exhibit, which by the way was very exciting…my first exhibit…I’m very proud of getting to be a part of it…we had friends from all over the US visiting just a few days after the exhibit opening & they all stayed for 4 days…concerts to attend of our favorite band Rush with our friends…road trip to Austin for what else to see Rush again for the second time in 3 days on 3rd row!!! oh yes and we managed to sneak down to the front row with the help of our friends and get RIGHT under Geddy’s face!!!…a relaxing weekend at Kenny’s best friend Terry’s cabin in Leona and had the oportunity to take some really great photos too…and of course everyday stuff around home and finding some quiet time with each other after all the crazyness…although the crazyness was quite exciting…oh yes, and we also were able to get out last weekend to the local annual event of the Airing of the Quilts, and SHSU was also putting on their annual Folk Festival in Sam Houston Memorial Park…where we did what we love…took lots of photos!

I promise I will make every effort to blog daily…well as long as I have something to blog about, but then again isn’t there always something??

Here are some of the photographs of our past month…hope you enjoy them!

LSC Art Exhibit

A couple of months ago while out on a photo session in downtown Huntsville I was approached by SHSU Professor Mike Yawn. Mike was out gathering information for Walker County Historical Commission, Huntsville Main Street and the Political Science Junior Fellows at SHSU. The organizations are hosting an art exhibit highlighting historic locations in the “University Corridor” area and “The Avenues”. Mike asked if I would like to be a part of this event and help to recreate some of the images that date to as far back as the mid 1800’s. There are approximately 20 locations that have been identified and nearly 70 photographs have been collected ranging in dates from 1843 to 1980. Without even thinking twice about I said yes!! How could I not?? It is a true honor to be a part of something like this in my community!

Well a few weeks ago I finally had the chance to get out and complete some of the shots. Two that I have completed so far are the SHSU Woman’s Tennis Team (replication of one shot in 1915) and last week I had the honor of reproducing a historical photograph with Mrs. Samuella Palmer (daughter of Mr. Gibbs A. Wynne & Mrs. Lela Mae Wynne) when she was a young toddler that hangs in the Wynne Home in downtown Huntsville. The Wynne home has stood for nearly 100 years! Mrs. Samuella Palmer was there that day to be a part of the replicated image and she sat in as one of the 3 women that were also in the circa 1910 photograph.

There are still more photographs to replicate, and I will post about them as they happen…so stay tuned!

For now check out the WCHC website: http://www.co.walker.tx.us/history.htm
